Welcome to Ikwe Safe Rides
Ikwe (Women Helping Women) Safe Ride Mission Statement; Ikwe Safe Ride aims to provide a safe means of transportation for female members and children of our community through a volunteer run initiative. We are an alternative to taking a taxi. We embrace diversity and promote equality in our community. The safety of our volunteers and passengers is our number one priority.
Request a Ride
Request a ride by joining our Facebook group: Ikwe Safe Rides (Women Helping Women). There are 3 mandatory questions you must answer prior to your request being approved. If these questions are not answered your request will not be approved and may be denied
In order to join the group you must be 18 or over and identify as a female.
Post on the wall using our standard format when you need a ride or pre-book:
Number of stops:
Return or one way:
When: (Requests can be for ASAP or prebooks. we recommend prebooks especially for busier days and times like mornings and rush hour)
Number of People/kids/males over age 12:
Car seat needed?
Note: Donation amount to be discussed with drivers via private message before the ride is booked.
Our suggested donation amounts are $10 for every 15 minutes of driving (in city) and $30 for every hour out of city limits. Out of city donations are calculated as a return rate. There is also a suggested $5 donation for every minutes of waiting time (Example: sitting at Walmart while you shop).
Requests for trucks and moves to be discussed on a case by case basis and with the driver as every situation is different.
24/7 Live Support
A Board Member (Admin) is usually available to help with any problems or issues 24 hrs a day. You can contact one by messaging us through our facebook group.
Become a Driver
Our Drivers are all volunteers. Riders offer donations for the rides we offer. As an Ikwe driver you are kind, respectful, do not judge others and are willing to be available at least four hours per week and do occasional free rides. You are over 18 and have a valid full drivers license and registered/insured vehicle. You will be asked to provide a copy of your license and registration.
To become a driver:
Request membership to our FB group (ensure you answer all three questions).
Request to join the Ikwe Potential Drivers Group. Information about training sessions and any news will be posted in this group.
We are currently in need of early morning (4 am to 8 am) and rush hour drivers (2 pm to 6 pm). We are always in need of drivers with trucks and larger vans.
Ikwe Safe Rides (Women helping Women) is a legally registered non-profit group.
